The Beginning

Awesomest of news.  Points East hand planes are now available at Bunger Sayville, probably the coolest shop on the Eastern part of the island, if not the whole island itself.  Super awesome crew and amazing products, so go check it out if you're in the area.  You won't be disappointed.

Summer draws closer everyday, and although the 'summer' line has launched, there are some Top Secret limited edition things in the works, as well as a free mixtape comprised of local artists, slated to be released on June 21st.  More on that to come.

Stay Thirtsy.

Pre-News Announcement

Been too long in between posts, but some super awesome news will be dropping in about a week.  I'd give you a hint, but it would give the whole thing away.

Some happenings: been a busy month for skateboards, with one going to Brooklyn, another California and one bound for the Catskills come fall.  It's really rewarding to see a project come full circle, especially when it's something that's going to be used for years to come.
Order for blanks is hopefully going in next week, so some surf porn should be coming soon.

Stay Tuned.

Summer Hath Sprung

It's been a while in between posts, but I have an excuse.  Lots of skateboard orders coming in recently, so I've been taking time out, paying close attention to all the details.

But enough of that.  Summer is officially here (kinda).  So, with that being said, the new Summer 2013 line has arrived!

Super stoked on how everything came out and it wouldn't be possible without the help of some ridiculously talented local artists, and all those who helped in the printing process.

Lots of other summer goodies coming out soon, including two new skateboard models, new surf craft and other rad one-off gems, all flavored with Long Island goodness.

You can get the new line on our Etsy store, and through some events we'll be vending at over the summer.  Stay tuned for appearances in store!

Enjoy the Stoke.

List Keeps Growing

It's been a while since I've posted.  Things are stacking up on top of one another, and I find I have a week left to do a lot of stuff.  Typical.

Summer line is gonna be ready next week. So get pumped for that.

As for now, back to work.

And crap.... there's emulsion all over the carpet.

A Day Late...

I don't know why I haven't written anything on here in weeks.  No excuse really.  Tons going on, too.

Summer stuff is about a week away from really kicking in.  Working on some sweet promo photos for the site and Etsy, to give everything a clean and even appearance.  Ew, look at me, conforming.  I make myself sick.  But when some stuff looks good when it's clearly highlighted, it's hard to resist.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Sea Dog.

Also, just go this bad boy.  4 color 1 station press.  Would've loved 4 station 1 color, but those were A LOT more money for some odd reason.  Still, this should make things nice and easy.

Stay tuned!

It's been a awesome week for productivity, and it's only Tuesday!

First, and foremost, I signed on for Today's Mixtape Festival, a huge music festival put on by East Coast Collective.  This is the second year in a row that Points East will have a vendors table there, and the entire summer line will be available to purchase.  Awesome!

Second, and still largely important, I put a huge dent in the construction of the Points East website.  The domain name has existed since August, and only now has actual design started.  Still some kinks to work out with the DNS (look at me using code jargon), but hopefully soon the site will be live.

And today, a HUGE weight was lifted off my back.  A while ago, I scored 100 hand planes worth of reclaimed shelving, and today, the process of ripping and beveling started.  Here's a picture of it stacked nicely in my hell-hole of a shop, waiting to be glued and clamped.

Tomorrow is another big day of sanding, as new templates have been cut, as well as 8 planes.

Stay tuned.

Enjoy the Stoke.

Winter Sucks

Sure, it's good for snowboarding, sitting around a fire, drinking beer, and if you're up to the task, cold-water surfing.  It has its pluses.

But nothing beats warm water and hot sunshine.  Nothing.

In anticipation of a big summer, I've been planning, planning, and making.

Here's some Sea Dog (name still pending) hand planes, made from 100% reclaimed lumber.  Features a spooned nose, single concave and hard rails.  Its brother, the Sea Wolf (name ALSO pending) is going to be the same outline, except with engineered Vee cut into it, to aid in tracking, speed and maneuverability.

All planes are going to be branded with a vintage Japanese branding iron that is on its way from the other side of the world.

More shots to come.

The Dumpster Diver

Well, here I am, going to the source for reclaimed lumber.  Maybe this is where Dane Reynolds got the name for his signature model.....

However, it is with the running trend that when anything possibly good comes along, the stars align to make sure they don't go as planned.  Nothing but rain soaked particle-board and some huge plexiglass table tops.  There was a beautiful 8-foot solid wood table that was in no way going to fit into my Hyundai Elantra.

Shame... it would have made a lovely alaia.

In other mediocre news, got the table saw set up to cut perfectly crooked lines.

That's what I call progress.

Enjoy the Stoke.

Week in Review

It's been a while since I've posted, but a lot has happened in the past week or so.  First, and most importantly, scored a massive amount of reclaimed lumber from a retail store undergoing renovations.  THey got all new shelving, and a lot of the stuff they got rid of was pine.  Not mahogany, but beggars can't be choosers.  Also, got some nice long planks for an alaia to be built come spring.

In other local news, Long Island breweries got together to craft Surge Protector IPA, a craft beer whose profits are going to Hurricane Sandy victims and Barrier Brewing Company.  An awesome effort of Long Island's craftsmen and artists to truly help the community.   Release parties tonight, and available through the next couple of weeks through a bunch of different bars and breweries.  More info here.

Stay tuned!

A Tree Grows in the Shop

Ah, a sight I truly love to see.  My gracious friend Danny (who's currently on two week hiatus in sunny, warm, surfy Costa Rica) hooked me up with a huge pile of lumber.  Oh, the possibilities!  From my calculations, there's 12 hand planes to made here (accounting for, of course, ripping down all the cut-offs and laminating them with some stringers).  But not a move is being made until I go and get a table saw, so I can engineer some vee into them.  Oh, it shall be rad.

Stay tuned.

Enjoy the Stoke.

Costa or Bust

2012 was an awesome year for us; so many amazing happenings and progress, even though it was our first 'official' year.  I can only imagine what 2013 will bring.

It's only day 3 (almost 4), and things are already lining up for the month.  Today, I lent a buddy some hand planes to bring down to Costa Rica for a surfari he's going on.  I was supposed to sell him some, but my stupid can of spar urethane dried up thanks to a bent can and cold weather, so his purchase will be postponed.  Still, I couldn't leave him and his friends empty handed, so I lent him these -

- to share with everyone and get some barrels.  He's going to be fully equipped with Go Pros and what not, so expect some rad footage.

Stay tuned.

Enjoy the Stoke.
